“What is this?”
It’s a pool of 5 maps for each of the popular duel and team modes.
“Who made this?”
A panel of top players with years of experience in competitive play.
“What is it good for?”
In the past there have always been complaints from various players that, considering the variety of maps in sauer, it’s extremely difficult to specifically practise certain modes.
Map pools aim to drastically reduce the set of maps one has to be prepared for, thus increasing both equality of opportunities and skill level on set maps.
“Can I still play insta xenon duels?”
Sure, nothing stops you. However, keep in mind that SDoS and SauerCom tournaments will adopt these pools. Should anyone else intend to run a tournament in the future, feel free to use these pools, too.
“I think that map xyz should be in the pool instead of map zyx.”
We’re always open to suggestions. The pools can be altered at any time.

how would you overcome the bias of that map? i think they did a good job (mostly) of picking maps that are actually fair to play in tournament modes without having to implement something such as half-time side switching. only thing i'll say is that twinforts is absolutely retarded but dust2 isn't any better

torment is too small. metl2 is played quite often but i agree with you, it's not a good map. skrdm1 or deathtek would be better

as it says below, skrdm1 and deathtek are in the running. torment isn't too small, its huge empty and lacks any semblance of interesting gameplay….

POINTS FOR DISCUSSION: skrdm1 for metl2? deathtek for hades? or academy, tartech, phosgene or metl4 for either of those? In ectf: forgotten for damnation? Do people think forgotten is unbalanced or benignly asymmetrical?

      – skrdm1 for metl2 = could be ok
- deathtek for hades = i think hades is better personally
- tartech is a bit small for me but i guess it's cool
- i can predict the answers people are going to give: that it's horribly unbalanced. they're actually incredibly wrong though as they're only taking into account how advantageous certain fighting positions are. evil have

The problem is that damnation is a 4v4 ctf map and doesn't really work for 3v3 (!) ectf.

I also agree with you on forgotten. Each base has its ups and downs, you just have to know how to take advantage of it.

I'd also go for skrdm1 instead of metl2. And hades is fine but I would prefer something like academy or park.

Yea, damnation is the 'safe' choice but forgotten definitely plays much better in 3v3. I think more research is required to determine whether or not forgotten is truly unbalanced, there are good points (as demonstrated above) to be made for both sides.

park is massively boring in FFA + no one's ever had any inclination to play it. your voice for academy is noted.

my thoughts on the ffa maps (warning: no asteroids, ever)

Skrdm1 is (arguably) more entertaining, newer, and with less annoying corridor rocket fights than metl2, whereas metl2 is (arguably) more balanced (less standing in the HB/YA corner all map and running 5 feet over to aerial assault the quad every 70 seconds), more classic, and thus possessing a more refined level of gameplay.<br

imho deathtek is muhc better than hades… hades is a capture map. And skrdm1 is better than metl2 too.

      – -Anything- for metl2 sounds good for me.
- Hades is a pretty fun duel map, but can be hard to find people.
- Let's ask to get rid of blue armor? ^^

that's why hades is cool – am i the only one that likes having to predict where enemies will come from in a big map?

inb4 "yes"

lol both sides on dust2 have their advantages and disadvantages, too. like team good has the far right spawn where you can get the impossible flag return.

great, an unfair RNG spawn, really balances out the consistent handicap of having to assault a well covered flag with a huge height advantage vs taking a level flag with a route straight out of the line of fire in mere seconds.
