Q&A #17 – Whats your position in teamgames? Do you have certain strengths and weaknesses?

In this episode of our weekly Q&A series, we asked several players for their function in teamgames. If i had to answer the question, the answer would be defense for sure, but let’s see what positions our interviewers prefer. Check out their answers below!

<degrave> I am universal player, my position depends on game situation. If team have good flagrunner i prefer cover him, if enemy team have good attackers i prefer to stay on defend. I am bad at attacking and don’t know my strengths.

<Gangler> I have not a special position in team games. In the most games I rely on my impressions and my experiences. Only If I talk with my mates in Mumble during a clan war in an important tournament and they have special commands then I do what they want. And my dudes really have a lot of ideas for tactics and stuffs in these moments. But my virtual problem is that I lost my ambitions over all the years where the game was a part of my everday life. Beyond that I just want enjoy the rest time of Sauer in harmony and a lot of mix games and thats the reason why Im not thinking about my position in clan fightings or Sauerbraten. I dont think that I have certain strengths or weaknesses but I believe that I have extremely skill fluctuations. Ah yeah and my ping. But I dont want talk about that problem.

<TheLove> I consider myself as the missing piece in the team, even that a lot of people think I’m good flag runner i see myself more as defender, but i’m actually tactical person, when i play i feel like in the matrix, i notice every little detail and make scenarios and fast decisions and be there when i’m needed, and thats my strengths, my position depends on my team, i really admire teamwork but sometimes the team doesn’t understand each other and that is my weakness.

<Star> During clanwars or when playing with a team of players i know better, my position on the map is ‘everywhere’. I am mostly scouting the map, looking for the weakest entry points to the enemies base and providing awareness about the enemies’ positions to my team. Using the oversight provided by this gamestyle, I often seek the most silent entry to reach the flag and exit with the route that is most likely the one with least resistance back to our own base. Although this route can be quite counter-intuitive to most players, based on my scouting knowledge it is often the one that captures flags.

<Qur> I think the most important things to do in teamgames are to protect my flag, and secondly to protect the flagrunner, so i try to do both things as much as i can .In my mind, i’m one of the worst flagrunner ever , so i can consider myself more like a defender.

Now it’s up to you! What is your favorite position in teamgames? Is there any position in teamgames, you hate to play on? Let us know in the comments!

Defense ftw. Except when you get a team that never goes for the flag, they just run around the map killing things.

Actually a tactic I learned in FD is to stay on defense, and as soon as you hear the enemy flag stolen, you push up and defend your teammate’s vulnerable ass.

Too many players tend to forget that there is such thing as positions and tactic, and instead they think frags are everything. But when you are distracted from the real situation because you are chasing a gut that you just have to kill for a frag, you are just as worthless as the next guy. Pay attention to your radar and know when to back out of a gun fight that’s not pressing.

It all depends on your teammates and the other team. I think it’s important to know each other’s strengths and work off them. Generally I’m not a very strong player in any one area so I try to pick up a position that my team is lacking. In most cases I find my strength in trying to support both offense and defense as I seem to shoot better when in a group than by myself. I’m really not a very good flag runner, flag defender or sniper, but I do find some luck in the middle, especially in close combat.

One of the great things about sauer and arena fps’s is you can’t really have a set position. You have to be able to play any position and tactic because the situation will change in just a few seconds. It’s not like in “modern” shooters where you can pick a position and tactic and train only that and trust your teammates to handle the sniping or the close quarters. You have to do it all in sauer.

Well i always thought that the lack of specialized “team roles” is the reason why the clans in sauer are stuck somewhere between casual and semi professional playing. Im not judging anyone but i simply believe that some guys are wasting their potential. Focusing at certain positions would allow more advanched strats and allows everyone to shine on their personal area. That doesnt mean that you always have to stick to your positions though, a real pro is able to adapt quickly to al kinds of situations

I’d say I’m pretty shitty at flagrunning, every once in a while I do hit a target a few times though so that’s a plus

If you see dropped flag, you hear sound “beep beep beep beep” and you can not reset flag because someone fall down, so yea, this is Friteq.

I would say I’m more of a team player. I play where is needed. If the flag is open i will flagrun, if i need to defend i will defend. I prefer playing more offensive but i play where is needed.

I’m good at making my team win by not caring about eliminating key players but focusing on flags.

It doesn’t matter what your KpD is or how many suicides you have as long as your team has more flags than the enemy.

Finally I met a person who has the same logic as mine. However, some people taking a team game as their own duel against others. :)

    Psh,

Meat Shield, Bullet Magnet, Target practice, Bait, Distraction, annoyance, flag runner, comic relief.

Usually attempts at being a defensive player, but usually just that one guy who damages the enemy enough for my team to hopefully finish them off.

Occasionally a “No Fear” [Klutch] Flag runner, but mostly a meat shield.

Prefer to *attempt* to play defense, but will try to adjust to whatever the situation is.
